The Governor opened Parliament with the usual ceremonies. His speech foreshadowed a general election in August. Tho only measures ppopoged to be dealt wit) i iu the present session are Bills validating certain municipal loans and removing doubts regarding the operation of the Gaming and Betting Act, and authorising the improvement of the port of Newcastle.
In tho Assembly Mr Oarruthers is making a statement dealing with tho financial position of tho State.
