A special meeting? of Marton Borough Council was hold last evening. Present.—The Mayor,- Crs, Sutcliffe, Hilton, Gould and McE!downey. Business; To consider Gas Committee’s report and to appoint a ranger. , ~ _ The recommendations of the Gas Committee were adopted. Resolved, that the Jgas procure a few dozen each of new kind of gas mantles as per sample submitted to Council. The Gas Manager reported on cost of hiring gas stoves with receipts from same, wlixclx vras considered satisfactory. That the Works Committee be empowered to stop the kerbiug and channelling at Mr S. Gibbons’ corner for the present. ~ _ Letter received froiil Mr .T. 1 osier applying for position of . ranger and poundkeepor.—Left in the hands oj. the Mayor, Crs. Sutcliffe and Lyon to renort on. The question of paying the increased rates charged_ by the Standard and South British Insurance Companies for premiums due on the Town Hall was discussed and it was resolved, Crs. Hilton—McEldowney. that the premiums falling due be renewed and the companies be notified that the Council intend taking into consideration the question of whether selves on account of the excessive charge made.

Report of Bas Committee. Present: His Worship the Mayor, Crs. Gibbons and McEidowney. '"Resolved, \ Mayor—Or. McEidowney, that vre recommend the Conncil to procure froiii Messrs Drake and Co., of Halifax, a setting with three retorts at a cost of £SO free on board Loudon or Liverpool; also a coke clrate at a cost of £4 10s; Grs. Gibbons— -McEidowney, tl«.t an eight-day clock bo obtained for the works at a cost not; exceeding 80s ; Crs. Gibbons— McEidowney, that it be a recommendation to tho Council that in future Wz per cent be added to cost price on all gas fittings if paid within one month, and 5 per cent on cost of labour; Org. Gibbous —McEidowney, that no increase of pay be given to the stokers at the present time.
