Attempts shields. Per Press Association. Camuiudoe, Juno 7. Jerome Furlong, the city lamplighter, has been arrested on a charge of attempted suicide and wounding James McLennan, his brother-in-law. The accused is a young man and came from Auckland, whore he had made an attempt on Iris life. It appears that a girl at Cambridge had refused to walk out with Furlong, who declared that ho would soon settle tiro matter and proceeded to his brother-iu-law’6. house, where he siezed a razor and tried to cut his throat. McLeuuon, in attempting to disarm the man, was badly cut about. Furlong was tied to a chair by the neighbours and handed over to the police.
