The Premiers' Conference resolved that in consideration of financial losses sustained by Tasmania owing to the operation of Federation .£40,000 annually be added to the amount actually returned to Tasmania from July 1901 to December 1910, and that the fixod amount be determined on that basis.. It was also decided to favor representation at the Franco-British Exhibition next year, and it asked the Commonwealth to develop d eep sea fisheries. June 4. The Premiers' Conference adopted a resolution urging that as the question of refrigerated was seriously affected by the mail service remaining unsettled, immediate steps be takon by the Commonwealth to arrange a satisfactory contract. —Carried. Mr Carruthers'proposed"* motion objecting to the proposed agreemont for transfer of the Northern Territory to the Commonwealth. It was decided to send a New South Wales entomologist to visit countries infested with the fruit fly to make inquiries with a view to righting the pest.
