Press Association. Tm ahu, June 4. The sitting of the Supreme Cont was opened here this morning before Mr Justice Williams. The criminal calendar is a light one, comprising onlyjj] three cases, but two are lengthy. The civil cases are set down for hearing. The Crown solicitor will apply for svrits of attachment against 13 slaughtermen's assistants at Pareora who have failed to pay the fines imposed upon them in connection with the recent strike. Auckland, June 4. At the Supremo Court John Bennett, a middle aged man, was Sentenced to three years for criminally assaulting a Maori girl; William James Lyons, for perjury, six months. Tiie Auckland Nautical Court found the barque Manurewa and the scow Yespor both blameablo for the collision in neglecting to maintain a proper look out. The Manurewa's responsibility was apportioned at two-thirds, the Vesper's at onethird. Costs were awarded on this basis. The captains' certificates were not dealt with.
