APITI.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Tho fourth annual show of tlie Horticultural and Industrial Society was luld on Friday, aiid, as in previous years, proved a great success. The committee, stewards, and judges deserve high praise for the efijoiouoy with which they carried out their duties. A very creditable display of flowers was shown for this time of the year, and the vegetables and farm produce exhibited wore splendid specimens of what can be grown in the district. Tho industrial class attracted a groat deal of attention from the fair sex. A considerable falling oft, however, was noticeable in tho broad and sweets class, entries being far below tho average. This was chiefly duo to the scarcity of eggs this year. The various competitions were heartily supported by the public, who appeared well satisfied with their day’s Gating. An indignation meeting was called to refute some statements made by a correspondent in tho Advocate was held on Saturday. “Your Own” found it necessary to explain, nudjio was exonerated from blame. The teal culprit, however, will find it safer to lie low till the storm blows °ver. • , TT . Members of the Farmers’ Union who were present then he.ld a meeting' to elect a delegate and discuss the propositions to be brought before tho Conference at Levin on the 28th instant. Mr F. S. Guy was appointed to represent tho branch. Saturday was cold and wet, ami ou Sunday morning wo had onr first fall of snow for this season.
(Wo greatly regret that our correspondent was inadvertently credited with a statement which, if taken literally, appeared to reflect ou the inhabitants of Apiti.)
