From Gas Manager, application for an increase in salary.—Resolved, Ors. Hilton—Lyon, that gas manager receive a bonus of 50 per cent on profit shown during current financial rear, such bonus in no case to exceed £SO. , Letters were read from several gas companies giving opinions as to whether it was profitable to employ a gas fitting staff.—Referred to gas committee. From manager Opera House, reporting that £7 12s had been received during the mouth. The manager, Mr Knigge, submitted the third annual report and balance shoot of the working account of the Opera House. The receipts totalled £l-15 18s 3d and disbursements amounted to £l7O Is 9d, leaving a debit balance of £3l 3s 4d. The deficiency was caused through the offices not being let during part of the year. The Opera House was let on 43 occasions, of which 32 were travelling companies. The question of high rate of insurance was commented on, and this matter was referred to the Town Hall Committee to enquire into. The gas committee’s recommendations were approved as follows ; That gas manager procure prices from Home for one 20,000 feet telescopic gas holder, purifier and washer. That Council lay a fresh gas main to Mr Brown’s factory in Bowen street. The Park Committee recommended Council to cover the open drain on the south side of the football ground, put three lines of porous tile pipes at the foot of the terrace on the north side of the ground and pick up the gravel road through the centre of the park, leaving a walking path four feet wide in its place nearer the cricket ground, and that unless these improvements he effected the Football Club he allowed the use of the cricket ground until September Ist on condition that they place the ground in good order by and sowing bare places. Tiiat Mr Bishop be employed to clean up the grounds one day per week during the winter, and place a grating on the end of the "drain pipe leading from Mrs Gibbous’ section at the north side cl the park. Resolved, Ors. Gibbons —tm: Mayor, that Park Committee furnish an estimate of cost of suggested improvements to western portion of park and report at next meeting of Council.

Resolved, Crs. Lyon— Gould, that Mr Stevens, be thanked for his attention to Council's protest in the matter of the Saturday half-holi-day. Accounts amounting to £333 18s 7d were passed for payment and sums paid during the mouth amounting to £IC7 13s were approved. Tlio receipts since last meeting totalled fi32B 4s Bd. " The debit balance after payments will be £3125 9s. At a special meeting of the, Council it was fresolved, the Mayor—Cr. Gibbous, that the necessary steps be taken to raise an additional loan of £SOO making with the £2OOO already proposed a total of £2500 for tho purpose of erecting a now gas holder, extension of gas mains, working plant, etc.
