Per Pres? Association Wanganui, May 27. The ■weather is bitterly cold and rain is frequently falling. Gore, May 27.

The weather throughout Southern Otago has become very cold and bleak during tho past few days, frequent snow and sleet showers having fallen, and the rivers are in a state of flood. Crir.isTCHURCU, May 28.

A gale raged all last night, and in the early evening snow fell to some extent, but melted immediately. This morning the gale abated. Wbllikotqx, May 28.

Neither the steamers Mararoa, for Christchurch, nor the Moura, for Napier, Gisborne, and* Auckland, which left the wharf last night, were able to get ont of tie hatbour, owing to a heavy southerly gale which was running with a terrific sea. There is still a heavy wind, pud steamers arriving to-day report exceptionally heavy weather. No steamers have yet left port. Some damage was'done by tho heavy sea running to small boats ’in the bays around the edge of tho harbour, dozens of these being reported missing from tbeir mooriugs and resting places this morning. , Wanganui, May 28. The weather continues wintry, with a fierce south-westerly gale and furious hail squalls. Snow has fallen on the higher levels in the district. Eketahuna, May 28. A gale has been experienced for tho last two days, and on Sunday morning a light fall of snow. Yesterday there was a cold driving rain and hail, and another fall of snow covered the hills, but melted immediately on the low lying country. It is still bitterly cold, and there are indications of more. Gisborne, May 28. The heaviest sea known for years is running on tho East Coast. Shipping operations are suspended, and to-day a fierce south-westerly glao is raging.
