THE HISTORY OF CRUMPE.
Press Association. Auckland, May 28. The Hon. W. Beohan, M.L.0., who •was personally acquainted with John Langford Crumpe, charged with murder at Southsea, says accused was the nephew of the late. Dr. Orumpo, an eminent surgeon hut cocentric in his habits. When Dr. Crumpe died, about 80 years ago, he loft a fortune, believed to be about £-10,000 cash, besides landed properties. John Langford Crumpe was the doctor’s nephew. Ho early developed a roving disposition and was many times at sea as an ordinary sailor. For many years he followed mining in various centres. Crumpe often related his trouble about his uncle’s will and has been brooding over the matter for the past 27 years. Crumpe said busybodies in Auckland.sent letters home which had a great deal to do with prejudicing him in the eyes of the doctor. He was absolutely next of kin and instead of being well provided ho was left a matter of £l5O and was debarred indeed from going to the Old Country. John Crumpe married here a widow lady of very good family, who came from Home, and she had a number of children by her first husband. Two sons were born to Crumpe, one of these is still living. Crumpe mentioned to Mr Beohan that Mrs Moriarty was coirniu to provide in her will for this son. Crumpe disregarded the tonus of the will and went Home several limes to try and upset it but invariably failed to got lawyers to lake up vim ease and was unsuccessful in his designs. He was a goodhearted man, hut of violent temper if put out and was easily upset.
