I Makes Matters No Better; ' Press Association —Copyright. | London, May 21. i In connection with the meeting, on the 16th between Mr Deakiu and the industrial companies, representing capital to the amount of £1,000,000, j who asked for reassurances upon a number of points respecting the ecouomic and political Conditions iu ■ Australia, the chairman of the mcet- ! ing, iu a letter to the press, states 1 that Mr Deakiu merely replied to questions. After dealing with the resources aud development Mr Deakiu was asked respecting the pos- ' sibility of the Labour Party obtaining majorities in the State Legislatures aud he discriminated between the Australian Labour Party and ; similar parties iu the Old World distinguishing between the moderate | and extreme wings. Recognising , that investors were apprehensive lest . the Labour Party should obtain a . majority in every State and legislate • accordingly Mr Deakiu examined the ; position of each State, explaining . that if labour stood alone it would be unable to secure a majority iu any State, certainly not iu both branches of the local legislatures. Mr Deakin assured investors that there was not the faintest reason for apprehension that they would ho treated with any injustice in Australia. The meeting was private and - reported iu one newspaper only, as ■’ cabled.
