THE PREMIER’S RETURN.
Per Press Association. Wellington, May 18. The Government supplies the Press Association with the following cable, dated London, May 17th “ In conferring the Freedom of_ the City on Sir Joseph Ward at Bristol on Wednesday, the Lord May or referred to New Zealand as probably the Jmost beautiful country in the world. Sir Josopth Ward, in reply, stated that tho colony was anxious to extend its trade, and_ would be glad to see a general increase of trade with tho British Isles, and was glad to know Bristol wag anxious lot reciprocity. At the New Zealand diun.er ill London the same evening Sir Joseph referred with regret to the illness of Mr Hall-Jones. Ho said it was gratifying to find the New Zealanders resident in England were doing well, but hoped the hest colonists would stick to tho country; Ho urged the importance of New Zealanders in England using theif influence to obtain a fast passenger and mail service connecting the OM Laud and the colony.
