THE NAVAL AGREEMENT.
Press Association. Wellington, May 10.
The Attorney-General explains that the naval agreement which was entered into three years ago for a period of ten years, binds the Imperial Government, the Commonwealth, and New Zealand in a contract which cannot be determined without the consent of the three contracting parties. Unless, therefore, the New Zealand Parliament consents to determine the agreement it must continue in force until its expiry by effluxion of time, seven years hence. If it is to be determined the question of what is to take the place of the present arrangement becomes an important one. London, May 10.
The Admiralty intimate that since the concurrence of colonial Parliaments is necessary they will await formal communications from the colonial Governments before giving effect to the new decision respecting the Australasian station.
