OROUA COUNTY COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting was heH yesterday. Present: Crs. G. Wheeler (chairman), J. H. Vincent, Wrightson, H., •Rowling, W. G. Pearce, W. Eeid, and G. Cornfoot.
COKEESPONJDENCE. From Eangitikei County Council, stating that Railway Department considered present method for decking Kakanki bridge the best. From P. E. Eiokler offering to pay 4s 6d per acre for use of road line alongside railway at Halcombe and Mangaone creek. —Left to Cr. Cornfoot.
From P. Stevens, gasking that road loading to his property, Bunnythorpe, be repaired.—To be done. Prom F. F. Haggitt, asking if road fronting Ms J. Campion's property, Aoraugi, had been dedicated.—Still incompleted. From A. J. JDowden, offering to pay half cost if Council would widen foot bridge over Eangitawa.-Cannot now be Pram Peilding' Chamber of Commerce, urging need of improving road at Wilson's corner, Makino.—Loan about to be raised for improving Makino road. From E. Thorns, Porewa, asking Council to make a road fromhis property in Waituna Valley to Maori pah.—To be given an outlet.
From R. Hart, Ashhurst, askiag Council to repair his fence where broken by Council's contractors.—Referred to contractor. From Herbert Hart and J. Purkiss, asking for renewal of slaughtering licenses.— Granted.
From R. Lloyd, Stoney Creek, offering to sell land for deviation of LiDghan's road for £SO. —Accepted.
From P. Murphy re culvert ori Penelope road.—Cr Pearce to have it repaired. From Cr J. H. Vincent, reporting that the punt at Lower Gorge had been thrown high on the bank by the flood, the rope having broken and five chains of it had been buried by shingle. Men were employed trying to free it. He recommended that tho question of reserve for metal pit on Spur road be deferred until contractors had opened a pit. Mrs Pemberton's offer could then be considered. He had noticed that the creek at the bottom of Spur road was likely to damage Pobatigina road. Mr Caldwell wished to know whether his offer to fence deviation of Spur road had been accepted. —Offer accepted. From G. N. Ranson and others, re state of Bunnythorpe-Ashhurst road,— Tender accepted for its repair.
OTHER BUSINESS. It was resolved that J. Rasmussen's tender for forming and metalling Soren-sen's-road West be accepted. That Chairman and Cr Vincent be appointed to si_;n contract for Gorge bridge on behalf of Council, also tho plan for Tiwi road.
That action of the Clerk in accepting tenders of W. M. Burgess for following contracts bo approved:— Bunnythorpo road 70yds, Taonui road 100yds. Dried Milk-Gillies's 250yds, and Raymond street 15yds each, at 3s 6d. That applications be called for position of clerk of works over Lower Gorge' bridge. That 150yds gravel be put upon that portion of Junction road lying to west of Stanway road, and that steps be taken to open up the new road near Onepuhi and provide Mr Thorns with an outlet ; also that tenders be invited for supply of 2000yds between Slipper's Hill and boundary of Hiwinui riding, and 1000 in Aorangi settlement, north of Gillies' creamery. . That the rangers recommence their duties during the daytime on] Innes street, Ashhurst. That in reply to Railway Department s memo, notifying that it wiil not erect an overhead traffic bridge at Ashhurst-cross-in<r, the Department be requested to at once remove all fences and buildings on both sides of the road back to the proper boundary, and put down trees and shrubs obstructing view of the line on each side of the crossing ; also to cut the whole width of the approach down to the same grade as present metalled road.
