THE COUNCIL OF DEFENCE.

New Regulations, Per Press Association Wellington, May 9. The Council ef Defence has recommended to the Governor, who lias approved the suggestion, that every alternate year four officers shall be selected from the N.Z. defence forces and sent to England for a year’s practical instruction with the regular forces. The Council has decided to introduce a new system of reserve corps under which infantry or mounted rifles companies which find themselves unable to maintain their strength or are unable to mobilise quickly may bo formed into reserves. Under new regulalatious some changes have been made in regard to capitation and ammunition. Infantry men, cyclists, and signallers must attend eighteen parades during the year three being daylight parades. Payment for daylight parades shall be : Officers 4s, sergeants 3s 6d, corporals 3s, privates 2s Gd. Ammunition allowances are to he:—Permanent force, field and garrison artillery, submarine miners, field engineers, and defence cadets, 100 rounds for every enrolled member; mounted rifles and infantry, 180 rounds; defence rifle cadets, 120 rounds.
