Lyue received a deputation of members of the Loudon and Birmingham Chambers of Commerce, also the Associated Chambers of Commerce, who asked that the duties on advertising catalogues he removed or made payable iu Euglaud in bulk. Sir Win. Lyue replied that it was impossible to remove duties, but ho would consider the other suggotsiou. He implied that it might be necessary to exxtend the duty to magazines, which by excessive advertisements sought to evade the duty on advertising catalogues. Sir Win. Lyno pointedly referred to Britain’s disinclination for preference.
