WRECK OF A FRENCH STEAMER
Panic-Stricken Spaniards. Press Association—Copyright. Paris, May 9. The French steamer Poittof, from Marseilles for Buenos Ayres, has been wrecked at Cape Santa Marina in a gale. The passengers were chiefly Spanish emigrants, and many became panicstrikon and tried to swim ashore. Fifteen were drowned and two hundred saved. Nearly a hundred women were battened down below at the moment of the disaster. Rescues are proceeding.
