ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
Press Association, Carterton, May 8. Last evening the police were informed that a collision had occurred at Halswell, between a trap and a traction engine, a man being seriously injured and medical aid needed. The ambulance was at once sent out with a doctor. It was found that a few hundred yards beyond the Halswell Hotel H. A. O. Fergusson, who; was driving home in a four wheeled express, accompanied. by a groom, a man named Edgwiu, colli led with a traction engine, standing about a dozen yards from the side of the road. Tho horse swerved and throw Ferguson, who was driving, out of the express, his head striking the engine. The horse was unhurt and the groom only shaken slightly, but Ferguson’s injuries were serious, and lie expired on the way to the hospittal. Tho night was very dark and foggy. Mr Ferguson is well known in South Canterbury. •
