When tho Arbitration Court resumed hearing tho Tramway Company’s reply to tho tramway workers’ application for a now award, Mr Chamberlain, Engineer of Die Christchurch Tramways, said that too little was allowed for depreciation on Now Zealand tramways. If tho right amount was allowed for depreciation tho Christchurch profits would be nil. A safer margin was 6to r i}4 per cent instead of tbe prevailingly per cent. Mr Scott, tho employers’ representative, said lie noticed a repudiation of his statements regarding the Wellington tramway, but he would repeat that when the agreement was brought into force it put £6OOO annually on the running expenses, when the scheme was not paying. He would repeat that this < was done for political purposes.
