TAIHAPE.

From Our Own Correspondent. Our local footballers have _ started punting and from this out this popular game will take first place in the thoughts of our local lovers of the game. A good meeting was held last week and the chib starts this season very strong, both financially and otherwise, and wo predict a good season. Karioi is starting a club, as is also Ohaknne and Raetihi, so I do not think there will bo many off days on the Taihape ground. Last Thursday about 10 or 13 threehorse teams arrived from the rail head, having been dispensed with by the Engineer in charge. To show what can he accomplished, in the way of rapid travelling I may say that Mr Stanford, S.M., arrived in Taihape by the 6.5 p.m tram on Thursday night, took the first train, ballast, to the rail head, drove from there to Raetihi, took his seat on the Bench, finished his duties there, took the same moans of conveyance and arrived in Taihape about 7.30 p.m. This is, I think, a record trip and speaks well for the energy of onr worthy S.M., who is not a “colt. ” Great interest is taken in onr municipal elections. But I will pin my faith to the first councillors, 'also our Mayor, despite all that has been said to their disparagement.
