Tho timber for the addition to the public library and ladies’ waiting room is being carted to the site and tho work of erecting the building will he well in hand next mouth. Mr Summers occupied tho chair at a meeting of the Library Committee on Thursday and the Secretary, Mr Mills, read a statement of accounts and from figures quoted the library is in a had way financially, and something will have to he done to put the institution in a more flourishing condition than it is at present. Mr F. Stewart made an offer to get up an entertainment to try to'.liqindate the present liability. After considerable discussion as to what arrangements could bo made, tho meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the chair. . At a meeting of the Domain Board four tenders were received for an eight-aero section and tho offer of Messrs Wright and Carter for £l3 10s per year was accepted. Other tenders were as follows: —Meyers and Sinclair £lO 13s 6d, Johnston 'and Son £S, E. Mauagh £5. A public meeting is to bo called at a later date to discuss the question of a Town Board for Maugaweka. Tho idea seems to ho favourably commented on amongst the different businesspeople of the district, and there is no doubt it will take effect. At a sitting of the Magistrate’s Court on Thursday before Mr A. Thompson, S.M., a largo number of debt cases were dealt with,also Maugaweka Sash and Door Company v. Arrowsmith, Taihape, and others, claim for payment of calls on shares, etc. After a considerable amount of time had been taken up the Magistrate reserved his decision. Mr Moldrum appeared for plaintiff Company and Mr Cohen for defendants. In tho case of W. P. Sullivan v. J. Neale and W. Frost, a charge of assault, the defendants were fined £1 each and costs.
