A CIVIC ROW .
Per Press Association. V/ ELI.INQTON, April 10. The transfer of Wadestown from Onslow borough to Wellington city has not been accomplished without some turmoil. Certain technicalities are still uncompleted, but when the Onslow Borough Council met to-night the two Wadestown members, Messrs Nash and Larkin, foupd that thg other members had closed up on their seats, and the Mayor, Mr R. B. Williams, ruled that they were not councillors. They protected hotly against what they called disfranchisement of Wadestown, and g, violent scene occurred ; they resented being called “ Mr,” and when the Mayor threat, qned to summon the police they defied him to do so, The Mayor—" I’ll give you five minutes. Where is the telephone list ?” Mr Nash—“ Give us ten minutes i! you like. You can’t shift us.”
The Mayor—" You are what would be characterised in law as a. nnhlio nuisance.
and possibly as a Justice of the Peace I conic! band yon over to tho police.” My Laikin—“ ilTwouid cost yon more than yon are worth if you did.” Mr Nash—l will consult my solicitor.”
The Council then went into committee and the Wadestown members withdrew. It is understood that matters of finance affecting both Onslow and Wadestown were on for discussion, and the order paper contajijed 'a police of motion by Mr Larkin to rescind the recent resolution granting the Mayor a honorarium. Mr Nash threatens to apply for a caveat, and contends that he is in office till tho 24th lust.
