Annual Meeting

The annual meeting of the above was held last evening, Mr .John Robson presiding. The Chairman said they had every reason to feel satisfied with the first year's results. A credit balance of £6 (is was shown and considering only one show had been held it could be accepted as being highly satisfactory. Where had been a good deal of labour and anxiety attached to 'the first show, but it was gratifying to know that their efforts had been warmly appreciated. Some of the principal exhibitors from outside districts bad declared that the business-like manner in which the show had been conducted was an object lesson to many of the older societies. This was a compliment to the officials in charge of the initial show. They were indebted to the public for liberal donations received. They could not expect to get many entries from local breeders for the next show, as quite a number had only entered birds last year with the object of assisting tho •show. Tlio date for tho next show hud been fixed by the North Islam! Poultry Association—the last Wednesday and Thursday in July. He had attended"as a delegate at the Association meeting at Palraorstou, audiregretted to say that a prominent member had endeavoured to obstruct the business in evory way. There was also a feeling against small Societies holding shows, an opinion being expressed in favour of eenjialising the whole thingr-big shows in largo centres. If they Wanted to keep the Marton show going they to fight for it. The Palmerston people had some grievance against the A. and P. Association, and wanted to bring the affiliated poultry societies into tho quarrel, (jut ha was against this. (Hear, hear.)' Ho advocated the necessity of sending delegates to these meetings. It had been customary to appoint proxies from larger centre's, and j.f this was continued country societies would be neglected. He urged thatregular meetings be held during" the year in order to keep the society alive. * The ejection of officers resulted : Patron, Mr W. J. Birch; president, the Mayor (Mr J. F.
