TARANAKI OIL.
1 Per Press Association. New Plymouth, April 4. Tho directors of the Taranaki Oil Co. visited tho Birthday well yesterday to test the apparatus fixed for the public trial next week. After running off some six barrels of oil in about half tho time previously taken, the gas became so strong that the oil came to the surface intermittently, although at short intervals. The directors therefore seat for Mr George Adams, an expert, who pointed out two causes for the cessation of the How. One being the size of the cullet pipe, which is i inch with a tap which further curtailed this one-third. Ho stated that it was impossible for both s:as and oil to flow through a pipe of' this small size, also that tho bore wanted cleaning. Theso two matters be'ng attended to, ho felt sure tint the well would satisfy tho most sanguine anticipations. Unfortunately this course will roquiro again placing an engino to pump out any silt that may have accumulated, so the directors were compelled to postpone the proposed trial for a few weeks. Mr Adams, from what ho had soon, had no doubt tho bore will bo payable evon as running to-day.
