ASTRONOMICAL.
Jupiter iu the constellation Gemini, and near the well-known variable star Eta Geminorum, is still a dazzling object at a medium height abovo the north-west heavens soon after sunset. As he now passes the meridian during daylight, lie begins to sink in the sky long before he becomes visible, so consequently ho can bo favorably seen only for a few hours every evening. By the end of April ho will be rather too low down to present mauy features of interest, He will bo in quadrature with the sun on 24th inst, and such a position is almost indisponsible to successful seeing of tho eclipse of his satellites. His great north declination, however, militates against attempts to make detailed observations in southern latitudes. , Jupiter will be iu conjunction with the sun on July 16th. L. A. MacDonald, F.E.G.S.
