ATHLETICS

FIXTURES. Utiku Sports, Easter Monday, Ist April. April 10—rarckaretu Sports. Awahuri Sports. h ino weather prevailed on Saturday for tho Sixth Annual . Sports Meeting of Awahuri Sports Club. Elaborate preparations had been made by the- Coiumittoo in tho picturesque paddock belonging to Mr Dougal Thomson. From a sportsman's point of view tho meeting was a. decided success, but suffered, like a number of others this year, through not being sufficiently patronised by the public. The gate takings, .£25, were less.

than last year. All events wore well cont3Sted, and in nearly every instance good

fields faced the starter. Tho Awahuri Cap was won by Mr L. McKe'.vie's Hailstone, a fine looking horse and an excellent fencer. Altogether a first-rate day's sport was provided, and it is to be hoped this popular fixture will receive better support from tho public next year. The daj's amusement was enlivened by music from the Feilding Band. Results.— j Maiden Race -W. Briscoe 1, E. Douglas 2. jrSSnl Maiden Hunters' Competition —R. Sanson's Mona 1, L.
