FUNERAL OF ARCHDEACON WILLIAMS.

(Per Press Association.) Nauie, March 17,

The f unci nl of tho l*te Archdeacon Samuel Williams took place at Te Ante yesterday afternoon. A large and representative gathering of both Europeans and Natives were present. Letters and telegrams of condolence and sympathy were received from all parts of the colony. The funeral cortege was one of tlio largest seen in Hawke's Bay.

A memorial service was held in the Napier Cathedral on Friday evening. It may be said that the news of Archdeacon Williams death was received with feelings ofj'profound regret all over tke colony, and his wide and boneficent influence in native affairs placed him in a prominent position amongst those who have helped in the making of colonial history.
