The Hon. J. D. Ormond's all cerise was very much to the front at Napier Park on Wednesday. Erl King, Martyrium, Wirral, and Oxton, all Birkenhead's, won four out of eight events. Oxton, the Hon. J. D. Ormond's colt, who won the Sapling Stakes, by Birkenhead—Solitaire, is described as asplendid looking two-year-old, who may, be confir dently expected to become prominent in | colonial racing.

Out of £9lB invested on the Flying Handicap at Napier Park, which Contender won, Golden Gate was served up a very hot favourite, £463 being entrusted to Mr Ormond's nomination. , L. Wilson, F. D. Jones, and A. Olliver each had a brace of wins at Napier Park first day.. , '

Donald Cameron is said to have accepted a retainer to be first available to ride for Mr G. F. Moore, of Wanganui. Old Whakawatea ran third in a welter and won a hack race at Kraidwood last week. On-the latter day a record attendance should certainly put in an appearance. A.day's racing and the Besses o' th' Barn famous Lancashire Band is a powerful double attraction.
