Tho monthly meeting was held yesterday. Present—Crs. J. G. Wilson (Chairman), G. Kendall, Thos. Masters, H. Hammond, J. Dalton and W. Barber.

Riding Accounts.—Amounts Jj Available for expenditure :—Waitohi Riding £IOB 9s 7d, Carnarvon £l-19 10s Id, Wirokino Division £B4 4s Id. Over expended—Sandon Riding £4B 8s Bd, Mt. Stewart £92 10s Id, Ron- fa gotea £96 10s 4d, Kawa Kawa £3SS Is 9d, Awahou £f4s Is 4cl. The Health Inspector reported that fojr cases of enteric fever had taken llacu in the county during the fiionth, one coming from the Maoris ttt Awahuri • whoro thero was mucli sickness. ' He had found the coinplaints in regard to the Oroua Downs ere?nierv quite .-justifiable and he was itiso of opinion that the water supplv there was insufficient and popr, - The Overseer reported that he had ' flowed Thompson and Fagau to Btop metalling in the Sandon Riding, A.l in order to save their crops. He had in Lromised Mr McElroy to spend about £5 iu ; improving the putting on the Mangaone Road. In the Waitohi Riding lie had placed a 9-inch pipe across Rowe's Line. Mr H. A'Court m- 13 tended to commence his contract for j 0 (supplying and delivery of metal on the Taipo-Awahuri Road. Mr. W. R. had commenced his contract for metalling on Banks' Line and the Rongotea r Longburn Road. jn the Kawa Kawa Riding Mr Bimpsonjwas progressing very satisfactorily with his contract for de- _ livery of 'metal on the Main Drain -» Road. The quantity of metal placed j on this road should be sufficient to keep it in good order through the m winter. He had interviewed Mr t j Smith ou tho matter of banking the C( Hanawatu river at Moutoa. Mr Smith had informed him that he would offer no objection, providing 'the -banking was'' done around the _ fiver and more than that, ho would g ijssist in putting up banks to stop the Overflow, but he would not agree to the scheme proposed by Mr G. Gower q to construct a stop bank across the q harrow neck of land to Mr Edward's ° property, j I'l'lto" Tramway Manager reported that the work of repairs and renewal Of the new piece immediately b?low Rongotea siding had proceeded satisfactorily. Mr S. George, assisted by Lineman Lammas, bad commenced repair's to the bridges. Ho recommended that Mr S. George be given the work to repair the carnage. Iu regard to fuUire work lie recommended'that tho present gang of men _ 1» employed for another six months. The manager also recommended that Stops be taken to recover amounts I due. The wages account showed an [ expenditure of £lO7 17s 7d, the receipts being £133 8s Bd. Merchandise was carried as follows—Grain 22JM tons, minerals 92>< tons, manure 3)« tons, merchandise 102 K tons, pigs 9 trucks, timber 13,108 feet, wool 150 hales, grass seed U}6 tons, posts, etc.. two trucks, faxes £.12 8s 7d. Mr Parnell having resigned, the Council ( decided to hold a special meeting to • inspect the lino and appoint a mana- I ger. I CORRESPONDENCE. From Treasury, stating that £2OO for drainage in Carnarvon Riding Lad been paid to Council's credit. Prom Department of Roads, promising to endeavour to provide a I farther sum for Pyke's road, but! none would be available until next October. From Kairanga CO., giving a statement of expenditure £l3O 19s IKI on Awahuri Bridge.—lt was stated that tho decking laid on was not thick enough, being but three inches. , _ ~ ' From Poxton Borough Council, i requesting -that metalling Beach I Road to high water mark be completed.—No funds for the work. ■ From J. G. Wilson, stating that construction of Shannon Bridge had • been let at £4713. From J. R. Stansoll, Shannon, containing an from White Papana to pay the former for metal taken from his land.— The order to , be accepted. From Young Bros., Mt. Stewart, | stating that spoil from road having been placed against their fence rendered it useless to keep out stock.— Eeferred to overseer. [ • From Jolin G. Cobbe, A. Wilson, andlEdward GoodboheTe, Feilding. • stating that soil was Jbeing removed from their frontages.—Notification made previously, and if complainants would'give the names' of.■'-persons who had removed soil the Council will prosecute. :'• From Grunrwahi 'Bros., Rongotea, offering 10s per ton for tho right to . From Glen Oroua Dairy Company, s'aiing that Mr Thompson had refused permission to enter his land to clean out Oroua Downs creamery drains.—Mr Thompson to be seen about the drain with a view of inducing hiin to allow it to bo deepened. It was resolved—
That the following tenders be accepted: —Contract No. 13, erecting roadman's cottage at Himatangi, W. Dick j£B9 ; No. 14, filling metals into trucks, M. Bilderbeck Is 5d per yard; No. 15, constructing 38 chains of drain, T. Cordne 27s a chain. A special order striking a rate of 1-60 of a penny in the £to pay intarest on a loan of .£2OOO, the Council's share of the cost of the Shannon bridge, and a special order striking a rate of 7-12 of a penny in the pound to pay interest on a loan to construct Koputaru road, were confirmed. Mr Dalton said he had interviewed Mr Johnston, who had now consented to give the laud for a road to pass through his property—a road between the Rongotoa-Longburn road and Jones' Lino,—which if constructed, wouldjfgive settlers in the Glen Oroua district a direct road to Palmerston. Some discussion took place as to the difficulty of getting tho road opened through other properties and it was decided to keep to tho old l roailine, I
It was resolved, on the motion of Cr. Dalton, that steps > bo taken to open up Lean'sjjJ road ' from Jones' Line to Lougburn-Rongotoa road
and that thoso settlers who have fenced across it ha% r e notice to remove their fences within ono month from date.
