HUNTERVILLE.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) The opening of the Hunterville Club oil Saturday evening last was a huge .success. Fully 100 members were present., aud a very pleasant evening was spent. The "President, Mr Hockley, called on Mr R. O. Bruce to open the club. Mr Bruce traced*the progress of Hunterville, and complimented the citizous on being able to erect such au up-to-date aud fashion-
able club. lie had visited various clubs in the Australian colonies, and for a country club the Huuterville ouo was far superior to any lie had seen. Tie had great pleasure in proposing the health of the club, and declared it duly opened. The President then spoke of the growth of the club from its earliest stages up to its present largo membership of 120. Great praise was due to the secretary, Mr T. R. Mowat, whose energetic efforts were largely responsible for the present successful issue. The remainder of the evening was spent in toasts, songs, aud recitatious, and fat M 1.30 p.m. the function was brought to a close by the singing of ‘ 1 Auld Lang Syne. ’ ’ The club itself is certainly a very flue structure, comprising six largo,rooms, iu addition to four others for the caretaker. Tiic building is furnished throughout most elaborately, especially the main reading room, which is about 20 x SO in size, and most beautifully furnished. The billiard room is somewhat larger, and con- \ tains one of Alcock aud Co. ’s best tab les.
