There were no less than six double J winners at the Wanganui Meeting—The v Lark, Aqua Kegia, Maui, Seaman, Full j r, Eate and Kuku. s Favourites finished first in every event .. on the second day with the exception of _ i the Jackson Stakes, in which Isolt (second ’ favourite) prevailed. 1 a Full Eato proved himself a good horse ( ~ over a short course, and fully earned his £ i, reputation as a flier. _ ' ;, The gallop on tho first day evidently 3: improved Isolt for, getting all the worst J 3, of tho start in tho Jackson Stakes, she t li galloped on the outside of her field and £ r entered the straight a length to the good. ( 3, Kairoma, tho Hon: J. D. Ormond’s is candidate, is a fine out of a horse, and is 1 rl sure to earn distinction ofi tho turf. He * finished his task in the Jackson Stakes i 7, very gamely, beating Achilles hy a length. 1. King Billy (7:8) was reckoned as the • ia best handicapped horse in the Waiiganui k, Stakes hy a number of owners, but after leading for a milo and a distance he 3> dropped back and finished last. The 6» winner of this event. Master Delaval, was 4 > undoubtedly the best seasoned horse, and 3j < gallops in a taking manner.

Kuku has won six successive events. He is one of the best of the Gold Eeefs at present racing. Another of the progeny of Gold Eeef in Gold Crest is sure to prove worthy of his sire.

Tho Stratford Meeting will be hold on Wednesday and Thursday, 13th and 14th March. Tho acceptances aro excellent throughout and give promise of good racing. The trotting events (an innovation, in this Club) have been well supported by horse-owners and will, no doubt, provo not the least interesting events on the programme. The course and appointments are in first-class order. Mr O’Connor will have charge of the starting barrier and Mr Hartgill will bo in the judge’s box. A special train w'ill leave Stratford for Wanganui on the evening of the second day’s races, and there will be a train each day from Wanganui to the races. Given fine weather it .is anticipated that the Club will have a record meeting. The Club will receive investments by wire or letter in the usual way as heretofore. Mr A. Brown, contractor for the removal of buildings at Marten Racecourse, has completed his work in a most satisfactory manner. Ho shifted the stewards stand a d istanoo of 106 feet, the people’s stand 84 feet, and the totalisator house SO feet. The contract was finished within six hours, and one pound would cover cost of damage, so that Mr Brown and his’ workmen may he complimented on their work.

Tho sporting instinct is strong in tho rising generation in New Zealand. A group of lads whoso ages averaged from 10 to 14 were eagerly discussing racing information posted at the Manawatn Times, office. What they did not know about various horses did not amount to much, although one of tho youngest ones asserted very positively that Pull Bate was tho property of Mr G. G. Stead, which led to quit©a heated argument.
