Worm-eaten by Wild Cats.
_sir, —As the Municipal elections will soon he taking place, I trust the ratepayers will bestir themselves and endeavour to secure the services of some gentleman possessing the confidence and respect of the ratepayers. I am sure there are several citizens who would do honor to the position of Chief Magistrate—men with all the attributes necessary for the proper fulfilment of the duties pertaining to such a high office—not one worm-eaten with wild" cat schemes—railways to the station (and the moon), meddling with what can never ho a first-class water sup • ply no matter how much of the ratepayers’ mouoy is wasted; the extension of the gas mains outside the borough, namely, to the station, which will cost about £-100, while ratepayers are denied the water and gas on the scoro of expense. By this last scheme you will notice that the mains are to bo laid tip the road facing a property which' has lately been acquired by a syndicate, consequently increasing the value of such property and giving people outside the borough privileges which, as I have stated, have been denied to ratepayers, the people who find the money. I will not encroach further on your valuable space, but in concluding I trust the ratepayers will consider seriously this important matter.—l am, etc.
