FIRE AT BELFAST FREEZING WORKS
.. „ Pdr Press AssociatWu. CniaiSiroinificH. March fe. - . A serious fire broke out at the Belfast freezing Works early this evening, and he flames, fanned by a strong north-east s-ihd, threatened to destroy' the whole of he works. Several of the Fire Brigade ingines from Christchurch have gone out :o attempt to check the conflagration. STo further particulars are at present ivailable. The fire at Belfast Freezing Works was subdued by 10.30 p.m. Both the fellnongery and wool store were totally destroyed, but the' manager of the company jould give no estimate of loss to-night. The fire will not interfere with killing operations at the works. The feilmongery was burned down exactly eight years ago to-night and the present building was the one erected after that fire. The tellmongery was valued at £6,000. • March 7. The total loss is estimated at £IO,OOO. It was thought by many at the fire that incendiarism Was the cause. This idea is not generally accepted, ( however, as the fire arose in the upper storey 'of the brick building, and a fire-raiser meaning business was not likely to choose such with numerous woe den buildings on the ground offering more likelihood of success. The fire, however, will probably be made a subject of a magisterial inquiry. The works were completely burned down in December 1888, and a disastrous fire also occurred in March 1899.
