THE CREW OF THE SONOMA.
Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, March 6. After their release from prison a few of the Sonom crew obtained work and the bulk were temporarily assisted by the Sailors’ Home. They are now wandering the streets penniless. The men state that they are treated as deserters, their only clothes have been confiscated by the ship and the American consul refuses to help them. The Consul, interviewed, stated that ho would help one or two deserving cases, but the others would be treated as deserters and their money and clothes would be sent to America, adding, “we have to make example of those follows or the crew of each ship will play up hero after hearing what a time these fellows had, and if wo assisted them there would bo no end of trouble.
