St. Leger Stakes—Poseidon 1, Booran 2, Benbow 3. Poseidon went to tho front from the start, led all tho way and won by two and a half lengths, same distance between second and third. Crossing tho tan the N.Z. bred Ellis got in front and was followed by Pompous and Istria, tho most prominent of the others of a bunched field being Grenadier and Dora Gray. Istria forged to tho front and maintained the lead up to the distance, where Collarit camo with a good run hard pressed by Ebullition and North Hoad. After a great struggle over the last bit Ebullition won by a nook, with half a. length separating second and third. Time, Xmiu 15lsec. Betting; 3to 1 Istria, 4 to 1 North Hoad, 12 to 1 winner. At tho five furlong post Peru took up the running, followed by Malsterdelle, who led to the tan from Boastful and Peru. Scobio led at tho distance, hut Tangaroa camo with a fast run on tho outside and won comfortably by two lengths, a head separating second and third. Time, Imin 17’socs. Bssendon Stakes, 11 miles—Dividend 1, May King 2, Dyed Garments 3. Other starters: Rhubarb, Proceeder, Realm; Pius, Antonins. Dividend was first away. His nearest attendants over the earlier stages of the race were Realm, Rhubarb raid Dyed Garments. Realm led into the straight but Dividend came again at the distance and won by a length and a quarter, 11 lengths separating second and third.' Time, 2min 37}secs.
