Per Press Association. Invercahgill, March 1. At a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce to-day it was resolved that, in the interests of tho travelling public, the time has arrived to establish a night train service between Dunedin and Christchurch. ‘ It was decided also to seek the co-operation of Southern Cham-* hers of Commerce in tho matter. The duty collected on local beer consumed here last month amounted to £164 19s 9d, as compared with £123 IGs 3d in the same month last year. On imported beer—that is beer made outside tho electorate—the duty last month was .£21414s 6d. The returns relating to other kinds of liquors are as fellows, the figures for February, 190 G, being given in parenthesis : 'Wines, sparkling, £4los (£4 10s), Australian £4B 11s 2d (£4O 4s),other kinds £27 Ss 5d (£sl 17s Id), spirits £IOB3 19s (£1322 7s (id). It will thus be seen that the revenue from liquor of various sorts during February last was £2142 13s 10s as compared with £1556 3s lOd in February, 1900, an increase of £587 10s.
