MANGAWEKA.
[From Our Own Correspondent. ]
The sixth annual horticultural show on AVcduesday afternoon was ouo that will long he remembered. The high quality’of exhibits in all classes went to show what can bo produced in so young a district, and vory favourable comments were made by visitors from other parts. Messrs AVeightman,-Lairdand Sou, and Loudon had special exhibits of fruit, vegetables and flowers. Tho hall was uncomfortably packed hot!) afternoon and evening, and as a result of the show a substantial balance will bo carried forward for next year. The side shows created much amusement. Appended are some of tho results :—Gents’ darning, J. Doun; gents’ hat-trimming, H. Townsend; ladies nail-driving, Mrs Palmer; bean guessing, 3501, Miss Bowie and Mr Ollivor tied with 2500; sheep guessing, 1401h5., J. Moon and J. Wright exact weight. Tho secretary, Mr H. Townsend, and committee worked hard from tho early morning, and deserve a good deal of praise for the manner in which the show was conducted under . trying circumstances through shortage of room and such numerous entries.
At tlio third animal meeting of the Mangawoka Sash and door Company Mt A. Wright, chairman, presented the report and balance-sheet, which showed a fair profit for the year. This company is kept very busy at present and'employs a very large number of hands to cope with tlio increasing trade. The shareholders and directors are looking with-con-fidence to a good year during 1907. Messrs Dalgoty and Oo; are holding their first sale of live stock here on March 0, with good entries.
