KIMBOLTON SWIMMING SPORTS

This annual fixture was held yesterday under favourable conditions as regards weather, and the attendance of spectators was fairly good. The swimming and diving was much better than one would have expected to see iu an inland town without proper means for giving instruction in the art. All but one competitor 1 ‘ trudged ’ ’ where it was open to them to chose their style of swimming, and the breast stroke was only compulsory iu one event. The judges were Messrs L. E. Jackson, H. V. Hammond, and A. E. Astbury; starter, Mr W. P. Pratt; handicappers, Messrs T. Moore and W. G. Carruthers; and Messrs C. H. Baynes, and T. Moore acted as joint secretaries. Mrs Middlemisa and Misses Watts and Haggitt dispensed afternoon tea. Everything went on smoothly and agreeably to all concerned, and at the conclusion of the sports cheers were given for all who had assisted in the management. The sheep for the guessing competition Was given by Mr L. E. Jackson. Its weight was 1531b5, and Mrs Poole and Mr J. R. Smith were tho winners of the trophies, each guessing 153)£lbs. The sheep was sold to Mr. Harden for 15s 6d. Following wore about the amounts received Gates £(> IBs, afternoon tea £3 ISh, entries £3, and sheep guessing £3; total £l4 6s. Results:—■ 50 Yards - Maiden Swim: J. ( McKechnio 1, J. Bell 2. Jones and Astbury were the other starters. A good contest between first and second. Neatest Header off Springboard: J. Belli, Clayton 2. Also starred; 0. R. Jones, H. Harden, McKechnio and W. Angus. ■ 75 Yards Handicap rG. B. Taylor 1, J. McKechnio 2, Astbury 3. 25 Yards Boys Race, under-14: W. > Jones 1, L. Christensen 3, W. Carrnthors 3. A close finish. Neatest. Header off Springboard, local; Harden 1, McKechnio 2. Five competitors. Neatest High Dive from Platform, 10ft. high: Harden 1, Jones 3. Pratt and McKechnio also competed. 300 Yards Handicap: J. Bell 1, H. Astbury 3. Won by nine yards. Jouol and McKechnio also started. 50 Yards Boys’ Race, under 16: S. Jones 1, L. Christensen 3. Neatest Header, for boys under 16 from the bank, about 4ft. high: L. Christeusou 1, W. Carruthers 2. Other competitors were .Healley, Reid and Bell. 50 Yards Breast Stroke; R. Jones I, W. Clayton 3. Also competed : H. Bell, Harden, McKechnio, Angus, Taylor, and Baynes. Won by about a yard after a good race. - ." 50 Wards Back Swim: R. Jones |l, H. Harden 2.
