Rangiwahia Sports, March 18th. Utiku Sports, Easter Monday, Ist April. CLIFTON ATHLETIC CLUB’S SPORTS. The energetic officials of Clifton Athletic Club who made a third attempt to hold a sports meeting at Bulls are to be heartily congratulated on tho success of the meeting. Tho weather was perfect, tho decidedly picturesque grounds of the Club were never in better order, and there was a much larger attendance of spectators and competitors than was expected. It is rare that sports twice postponed are a success, and the fact that there were large fields in most of the events and that over £2O was’ taken at the gates speaks volumes for the popularity of this young and enterprising club, which will now no doubt make oven bigger’efforts to cater for tho public next year.' ' The committee were happy in their choice of a secretary, Mr Jack Campion, his unfailing courtesy and businesslike methods contributing in a largo measure to the success of the meeting. Mr Jas." Oroncher, as conductor of sports, kept things going merrily. Mr G. Nicholson's handicapping resulted in some dose finishes, and tho judges, Messrs J. H. Gray, G. Howes and G. Hathaway, were fair in their decisions. Mr W. Orouclior was successful in starting, ami good work was done by Mr W. Kearney, result board, and Mr F. Webb. Mr F. Rhodes officiated as steward of horse jumping events —a very difficult position, and lie is to bo congratulated on tho fact of being the most successful official iu this capacity the club has yot had. Tho judges of these events —Messrs Tom McKanssio, A. A. McDonnell and J. A’Court-had some hard work to do. Tho Hunters’ Cup Competition was only decided after a third attempt, and" keen admiration was expressed of the high quality of jumping. On behalf of the club, Mr D. Scott congratulated the'winner of the cup, which, however, he regretted wad not at the meeting. Mr Lynn McKelvie was not satisfied with tho cup which had boon sent him, and had sent away for a much more valuable one. Hearty cheers wore given for tho winner of tho cup, the donor and the judges. Quite a feature of tho sports was the large number of eveut.; for tho children. As usual with a post entry meeting thero were waits between the big events, and these were filled iu with races for the youngsters, some very fine prizes being given. Mr R. T. Wearue, who had charge of this branch of amusement, was kept going all day long, and the big fields of youngsters he despatched were proof of and compensation for his able management. t Sir White, of Palmerston North, was iu attendance with his mammoth gramophone and 1 gave a programme which was highly appreciated. Mr George Laugdou’s capable management of the refreshment booth resulted in a largo business. Mr E. J. Lovett rendered good services’ as gatekeeper. Results : ! “ Maiden Race : B. Williamson 1, J.
