THE CARNARVON CASTLE.
Survivors’ Terrible Experiences. Per Press Association. Perth, February 2G. The Government steamer proceeds to Cape Naturaliste to bring the captain and crew of the Carnarvon Castle toFreemantle, the men being too weak to travel by road. A message from the Cape states that another apprentice died to-day as thejrosult of exposure. A member of the mate’s boat crew states that all worked splendidly and coolly in the trying voyage to Australia. Occasionally one of their number lost heart and tho rest would do their best to chcor him up. They had their last sip of water a few hours before they sighted land. Captain Jones of tho Carnarvon Castle, is very weak. The survivors of his boat had a terrible time -after parting with the mate’s boat. Weak boys were raving and strong men praying alternately. The Captain put the crew on quarter rations. The biscuits became saturated with salt water and the eating of them set up a fearful craving for salt water. OiPebruary 13 th the ship’s carpenter ate ravenously despite orders to the contrary. Soon after ho lay down quietly and seemed to go to sleep, hut ho had died. On February 19th water gave out and the provisions wore finished, the following night;. The same night a steamer passed them without observing their slow fires. On February 22nd they saw Capo Naturaliste light. There was great rejoicing among tho crow at the sight, and but for the Captain’s discipline most of the crow would have gone mad.
