Press Association.—Copyright. Melbourne, February 21. Mr Treviaa Clark, agent of the Mail Syndicate, has arrived unexpectedly, He brings plans and specifications of the new vessels. Mr .Clark is a Director of James Laing and Sons. The nature of his mission is not disclosed. Adelaide, February 21. A well known Adelaide merchant states that ho is in possession of information direct from the office of one of our largest steamship companies trading' with Australia confirming yesterday’s cable announcing that a hitch occurred when the mail contract was to be signed. Messrs Jjaings undertook to form a big company and so far have been unsuccessful though everybody likely to invest was consulted. Tho merchant was also informed that the keels of the new vessels, reported to have been laid down soma months ago, have apparently been put to other purposes.
