Slow Progress of Public Works.

Stsatfoed, February 20' At a very representative meeting of settlers of Stratford and district, held last night, a resolution was carried that this meeting desires to protest most strongly against the tardy pro» press made with tho following pnblio works —viz., metalling Ohura road, construction of Mount Egmont railway, and tho pushing on of work on th# Stratford-Ongaruo railway; further, that this meeting is of opinion that the continuation of such a slow rate of progress in opening up the back country is directly opposed fo the advancement and prosperity of the colony.
