The New, Zealander led throughout and won by two lengths. Time, 12min. Gsecs. Sydney, February 18. Arnst’s sculling is the subject of favourable comment from several experts aboard a steamer who were following the race. Stanbury expressed admiration of the powers of the big New Zealander.
Christchurch Regatta.
Per Press Association. Christchurch, February 17. The Championship Eegatta took place at Lake Forsyth, to-day, (Saturday). A great many excursionists left Christchurch by special train, but were not favoured with good weather, rain falling persistently ; the water was green with a strong odour, otherwise it was excellent for rowing. The following are results: — Maiden Double Sculls.—Akaroa 1, Christchurch Amateur 2, Star 3. Champion Fours.—Wanganui 1, Picton 2, Blenheim 3. Youths’ Four.—Canterbury 1, Star 2, Oamnru, 3. Won by eighteen inches. Junior Double Sculls.—Union 1, Akaroa 2, Lyttelton 3. Won by a length. Champion Double Sculls.—Akaroa 1, Cure 2, Star 3. • Won easily. Maiden Fours.—Blenheim 1, Canterbury 2, Lyttelton 3; Won by a bare length. Youths’ Double Sculls—Canterbury 1, Christchurch Amateur 3, Union 3. Won very easily. Champion Pairs—Akaroa 1, Blenheim 2, Wanganui Union 8. Won by fifty yards, third boat being seventy-five yards behind. Star fouled. Canterbury Junior Fours—Blenheim 1, Star 2, Union (Christchurch) 3. Won by 50 yards. Champion Single Sculls—Akaroa 1, Union (Napier) 2, Star 3. Exhibition Senior Fours—Blenheim 1, Canterbury 2, Port Chalmers 3. His Experience. Mr A. T.
