RONGOTEA SPORTS.
A large number of holiday makers from the larger towns, in addition to the local residents, made the Eongotea feports ground tlieir rendezvous yesterday. The weather for such an event was all that could be desired, and the committee displayed a thorough knowledge of the work uoaneeteit with a iporls meeting. To their the public are to be thankful for an into, resting day’s pastime, conducted, most promptly and without leaving any dull moments. The Club is greatly indebted to Mr J. Jarvis, tho popular owner of ijthelhtirsf:, for again placing bis grounds at t|ie 'disposal of tho Club. The officials appointed to take charge 6f the various events carried out their duties faithfully and well, the decision pf ; the judges never being questioned. The main spring of any sports meeting is always the Secretary, and to his exertions' the success or failure of the pvent depends. The Eongotea compitfee have'been very fortunate in securing the services of Mr Eobt. McClymont for this position, and tho public and competitors alike were loud in their praises of his work In these duties he was ably assisted by Mr Ik •Lightband. The progamine of 20 events bined four distinct branches of sport—pedestrian, horsejumping, cj'clihg and branch being repfesented' by high-class performers. * Air XJlie Shannon was sucppssful in guaging the capabilities of fche runners, soipe fast times and p'Josp finishes resulting. A novel way of securing a highly interesting musical programme by securing the services of an --- siaijcrs wpr fl treated to music reproduced from the best bauds in tire worjd. §dmo idea of the power of this “ instrument ” may he gathered by the fact that it was heard four miles from the ground. took place, which were well attended. The music at tlio concert was provided by a party of visitors from Foxton, wlio kindly gave iheir services, and the music for tho dance was \i ell rendered by Mr C. Barrow’s band from Palmerston.
