The steamer Larchmont bound from Providence to Now York, collided Avith the collier, Harry Knowloton, off Ouuonochontang at •midnight on Monday. The Larchmont sank in ten minutes. She caruieil ij’Q to 200 passengers. The dew of thirty, Captain Medcy and nineteen su’fvh'ors reached Black Island, after suffering fearfully from the intense cold.

New Yoek, February 13

Amid a scene of terror as the Larchmont sank ten female Salvationists kneeling on the deck sang “ Onward Christian Soldiers.” Nineteen of the survivors were severely frost-bitten owing to the spray coating them with ice. Thirty bodies encased in ice have been recovered on the beach. Fourteen others were frozen .to death ..while drifting in boats.
