THE WOOLWICH EXPLOSION.

The Woolwich explosion was chiefly due to cordite. It was hoard at a distance of 51 miles,' but south of tho river it was heard only three miles owing to hills intervening. The explosion occurred early in the morning in the laboratory of the magazine when tho workmen were absent. A gas holder containing $30,000 cubic feet of gas collapsed, the gas taking fire.
