(Per Press Association). Hapiee, February 12.

A letter has been received from Mr Powlds,' refusing to comply with the Charitable Aid Board’* appeal for a grant of £2OOO towards the cost of erecting a new Home for the Aged. At a meeting of the Hospital Board Mr J. Williams’ cheque for £IOOO towards the icost of the Chronic Ward was received, and the donor was elected a life member. A donation of £IOO to the same object was received from Mr E. W. Knowles.

A motion was passed at a meeting of the Education Board that all native schools should be placed under the eontrol of education boards. During the discussion it was shown/that on the average attendance £6 5s 6d was last year spent on each native scholar as against £3 2s 3d on each European scholar.
