EXHIBITION BAND CONTEST.
Per Pres* Association pnhisiciiuEGH, February 11, The Exhibition BandiContost started to-day. The proceedings opened at j) a,m, with tho B Flat Brass preliminary competition, eight players taking part The most popular pieces with the compe- : titers wore “ Schnpwcht" and “In Collar , Cool.” Tho following is tho order in which the soloists appeared ;—T. Barton (Dcuniston), C. Clayton E. Eraser 1 (lW.in "avals), 6. Smith (Mornington). W, Crosby (Ist Infantry, Auckland), A. Alien (Taranaki Garrison), C. Webster (Kaikorai), 'ail’d ‘C. G, Gallop (Woolston). T, H, King (Oamaru Garrison), sad L. Brown (Invercargill) did not appear. The judge (Mr W. S. King) selected Messrs T. Burton (Denniston), E. Fraser (Dunpdin Nayajs) and C. G. Gallop (Woolston) to play off for first and second places. Tho three eompet.tors named performed most satisfactorily. Gallop being particularly successful, The baritone competition w T as theu Commenced. There were twenty-nine entries and of these twenty-ono appeared to take part. They were as follow's: — 11. Tierney (Euahiue), E. Gilbert (First Infantry Auckland), S. McCarthur (Jupp’s), P. Knight (Taranaki Garrison), J. J. Cosgrove (Kuahine), W. Wurr (Tuapeka), Highman (Derry’s), J. Elder (Mastcrtoij Municipal), A. Martin (Derry’s), J. S. Barton (Woolston), W. Warring (Tiniaru Garrison), W. Bennie (Invercargill Municipal), J.Doig (Dunedin Navals), K. Little (Kaikorai), C. Greening (Wellington Garrison), E. May (Hastings), W. Yeoman (Dunedin Navals), G, Jeusep (Wanganui Garrison), W, Munvo (Greymonth), J. Colquhoun (Newcastle City), and A. Hall (Mornington), The following players were selected from the baritone contestants to play in the finals: —E. Gilbert (Ist Infantry, Auckland), Highman (Derry’s), J. Elder (Mastorton Municipal), A, Martin (Derry’s), J. S, Barton (Woolston), and G. Jeuuer (Wanganui Garrison). Tho following are to-day’s band contest results: —B Plat Bass, C. G. Gallop (Woolston) 90 points 1; E. Fraser' (Dunedin Navals) 86 points, 2 ; T. Barton (Denniston) 78 points, '3. Baritones, J. S, Barton (Woolston) 89 points, 1; A. Martin (Derry’s) 88 points 2; J, Elder (Masterton Municipal) 86 points, 3; G. Jensen (Wanganui Garrison) 85 points, 4 ; E. Gilbert (Auckland) and J. Highman (Derry’s) 83 points each tied for sth and 6th places B Flat Cornet, S. G. Buckley (Wanganui) 05 points 1; T. Goodall 1 (Greymonth) 90 points 2; J. K, Swindon (Wellington) 82 points, 3 ; J. Humphries (Invercargill Garrison) 78 points 4; J. Bailey (Dunedin Citizen) 77 points 5 ; F. McLean (Kaikorai) 76 points G. Twentytwo soloists competed.
