LETTERS TO THE EDITOR.
Sir, — I read the Advocate with pleasure to gather general information, but I think the account of the Council meeting last Saturday very scanty, although there was one remark by one engineer which showed his skill—that taking oil; the top of a hill and putting it in a hollow would ease the grade. Is this to be done so that the motor waggon can be used ? So far I hear it is a failure, and this at a great expense to the ratepayers. I should be glad to know through your paper the expense of this fad of the Council.— I am, etc.
A Ratepayer. Grcatford, Fccruary 5.
[“ A Eatepayer ” is evidently of a somewhat sarcastic turn of mind, but we suppose ho refers to an estimate given by Mr Thoms as to the cost of improving a steep hill on the BullsGreatford road, nearGreatford railway station. The Council has taken no action in the matter at present, though it is possible that, if the ratepayers in the district wish to have the work done for their own convenience, the Council might give some assistance. The motor waggon, we gather, has drawn a load of 5 tons up a grade of 1 in 7, so the hill referred to, with a grade of 1 in 13, is not likely to trouble it. Our correspondent should apply to the Council for any financial details he may require.]
