The annual meeting of the New Zealand Institute is being held to-day. It was resolved that papers which appear to be too long for publication in tho Transactions be referred back to the •writers for condensation. It was decided that it bo left to tho discretion of the Publication Committee to say whether soismographical records shall bo published. The Institute decided to express its complete sympathy with tho projected survey of tho southern islands, and to represent to the Government the importance of establishing Pencil marks on the I coast of New Zealand. Mr Ci. I*'. Thompson, of lUmedin, was elected president.
