MARTON FIRE BRIGADE.
The Social. Although the attendance did not full'll tlie hopes of an enthusiastic committee, still there was a fairly good assembly at the Marten iiro Brigade social hold in the Opera House last evening, the hall being comfortably filled for dancing. The Brigaae are indebted to Mrs W. Goodall, secretary to the Social Committee, who rendered
invaluable assistance in supervising and assisting with the supper. The officers and members of the Brigade were in their dress uniforms, and exCaptain Nuttall, of Dannerirkc and now of Marton, was also present. Ihe floor was fast, and the music, supplied by Mr Bert Crozier’s band, was up to the usual standard of excellence. Ihe orchestra played a complete set of new dance music, and the warm culogiums f of dancers and others must have been gratifying to Mr Crozicr, wno has devoted a lot of time in getting the orchestra to such a state of perfection. The duties of M’i.C. were successfully undertaken by Foreman A. Mclndoe and Fireman liichardson. Hxtras were hinctly played by Mrs Habboly and Misses Frederick. The ladies of Marton provided refreshments, and the thanks of the Brigade due to them for their generous assistance. During the evening Mr A. Hunt sang “ Three for Jack ” in good style, and Miss Baton, of Ashhurst, gave a capital rendering of “ "Why Must 1 say Good-bye Y' and was heartily applauded. Mr H. Gluhb. one of AV anganui’s leading amateurs, recited '■ Tim Hooligan’s Mars ” in capital style. He gave another amusing recitation which was well received.
